When Marker-Pen Meets Paper: Seven Facts About Me As An Artist

Eiyo guys,

Welcome back to Fadima Mooneira's blog. Today, I want to share with you guys seven facts about myself as an artist. Besides writing, I also love to draw. Drawing is one of my hobbies. In fact, drawing is my first hobby. I believe that drawing is one of the best ways for me to express myself, share my imaginations and opinions with others.

Ok, so here are the seven facts about me as an artist...

#1 I STARTED DRAWING AT THE AGE OF 3 YEARS OLD

My white on black illustration. I used a white-ink ball-point for this illustration.

Drawing is my first hobby, and the first skill I learned. I started drawing at the age of 3 years old. I am an only child. I don't have any playmates at home to play with. So drawing is one the best ways to keep me occupied. My parents love giving me coloring books and crayons when I was a kid. From my coloring books, I learned to draw objects on my own. My mother also taught me to draw a lot. When I was a kid, my mother always taught me to draw Disney Princesses, fairies, flowers, butterflies, animals, dinosaurs, and all pretty things. This is how I got my drawing hobby.

#2 I LOVE TO DRAW PRETTY GIRLS, HANDSOME BOYS & CUTE THINGS

My man-crush -Remy Hii

Every artist has their forte and style. And I have mine. I love to draw pretty girls, handsome boys, and cute things. These three are my forte.  And my illustrations are a mixture of anime and fashion drawing. I also love creating and designing my own characters.

#3 I DRAW MY IMAGINATIONS, THINGS THAT I OBSERVE & READ

Dahlia and Emil. They are the two protagonists for a novel I'm currently working on.

My imaginations and surroundings are my best inspiration. Most of my illustrations are base on my imaginations, things that I observe, and read. I love to draw my favorite celebrities, characters that I created from my stories, and characters from the novels/books I read.

#4 MARKER-PENS AND BALL-POINTS ARE MY BEST ART TOOLS

Lady in Red Hibiscus. One of my earliest illustrations. I used Prismacolor markers for this illustration.

Every artist has their favorite art tools or weapons. I have mine too. I love to draw with marker-pens and ball-point pens. I use different kinds of marker-pens such as Copic, Sharpie, Tombow, Kurecolor, Prismacolor, etc. For ball-point pens, I usually use Kilometrico. I love using markers and ball-points because they are easy to handle.

#5 BUT NOW, I ALSO USE IPAD PRO & IPENCIL

My girl-crush, IU. I used iPencil and iPad pro for this illustration.

Besides drawing on paper, I also like to draw on my iPad Pro. Three years ago, I learned how to draw using iPencil on an iPad. Using iPencil and iPad to draw is awesome. It's easier for me to control my strokes, choose colors, and edit my works. In fact, I love using the iPad and iPencil more these days. The app that I usually use to draw illustrations on iPad is Adobe Sketch.

#6 I LEARNED DRAWING ILLUSTRATIONS FROM DANIEL CHONG

My batik-style illustration. I used Sharpie and Copic markers and gel-pen for this illustration.

Have you guys wondered why my illustrations are a bit fashion-like? That's because I learned to draw illustrations from one of Malaysia's famous fashion designers, Daniel Chong.  I used to study fashion design during my diploma years. At that time, Daniel Chong was my illustration lecturer. From Daniel, I learned how to color human skin tones, draw cheekbones, Adam's apple, eyelashes, and even nipples. Hehehe! Daniel is a good mentor, designer, and artist. Daniel, if you are reading this post, I would like to say thank you for teaching me how to draw beautiful illustrations. You are the best, bro. I wish you all the best in your fashion designing career.

#7 I WISH AND DREAM TO BECOME A CHILDREN'S STORYBOOK ILLUSTRATOR

Dahlia - she's the female protagonist for the novel I'm working on now. I modeled her after IU ^_^

As an artist, I have a dream to become a children's storybook illustrator. And I wish to work with any children's storybook author in a book writing project. If there's a children's storybook author reading this post and looking for an illustrator to work with, I am here to work with you. And I'm ever-ready to work with you. So pls!

Ok, that's all about me as an artist. Insya'Allah, I will share with you guys about myself as an author in the future. As an artist, I have an Instagram account that I created as my art gallery. Pls, feel free to visit the account. It's @fmooneira_art And If you like my work, pls follow and support my account.

Before I end this post, I want to ask you guys two questions?

1) What is your main passion?

2) Do you wish to turn your passion into a career?

Ok, that's all for now. Thank you for reading. See you guys again soon.

PS: All illustrations in this post are my artworks. You need to ask for my permission and credit me if you want to use them for your blog, website, or content.

XoXo,

Fadima Mooneira ^_^
